If you open a new account to get the iphone and then cancel your contract You pay the early cancellation fee and you have to give the phone back. If you do not give the phone back than they charge you full price of the phone. -- As for me - I have AT&T - but I have to pay full price for the iphone. Because - even though I have AT&T - I never gave up my Suncom Contract - Even when Cingular bought them out and then AT&T took over. I still have the unlimited plan for $65. Also: not to nitpick, but 499 and 599 down to 199 and 299 is a $300 difference, not a $400. ;) Still: assuming the cancellation fees do not change, you're getting a 16GB iPhone for about $475, give or take, which saves you $125 over buying it straight-up with no contract.
